Beach time!

The temperatures have skyrocketed in the past couple of days so it’s been pleasant and summery. This gives one considerable vacation mood and beach oriented thoughts, myself including.

SInce I’m considering revamping my beachwear department I thought I’d share with you some of my online findings, maybe it will inspire you or inflict the same beach mood/desire as my own if you haven’t been hit by it yet, in which case I apologize in advance if it makes you less productive.

Bathing suit wise, it’s always good to keep in line with your body type and personal preferences for bikini shape and exposure. Trends can be a guideline if you lack inspiration in let’s say color or print department.

Shown here are a T by Alexander Wang mesh swimsuit- a sporty feel, with a touch of sexy. I love the athletic feel plus the mesh back and the fact that it’s black- it has a certain presence without screaming too much. The Isabel Marant crochet bikini set has a more boho-chic allure. This whole vibe has been present all over the Marant SS13 runway and it’s guaranteed effortless glam and french nonchalance. The Dolce and Gabbana printed halterneck bikini is Sicilian inspired- so if you plan of hitting the Italian coast this should be a no-brainer. The Gucci plunge-front cutout swimsuit is not a good choice for the faint of heart or those wishing to preserve anonymity. Plus it has the added requirement of a killer body and major attitude. I love this piece. Very glam, fashionable and a good dose of sex appeal. Plus the cobalt color will look amazing in the summer sun.

Can’t hit the beach without a hat- don’t want to get a heatstroke. This Maison Michel wide brim number has a St Tropez feel to it, but you can also go for panama hats or a chic turban for an old-Hollywood look. A pair of shades is also a must - go for edgy prints or weird shapes for a retro look and a dose of fun. Here is a pair from Miroslava Duma’s collab with Thierry Lasry. The streetstyle icon put her quirky touch and the result carries quite the punch - love it. Add some bangles, like this Ashley Pittman set made of bronze and horn and always go flat - I personally love the Chrysso beaded flat leather sandals from Ancient Greek Sandals. Again a more boho-chic influence.

You’ll need a big enough bag to pack all your beach essentials- don’t forget SPF, good music and something enjoyable to read. If you’re not going to Brasil but still admire Brazilians’ exuberance and fun-loving attitude, Charlotte Olympia has a surprise for you in this Discover Brasil canvas shopper.

To cover up go for relaxed denim shorts, like the Mary Katrantzou x Current/Elliott boyfriend short- another successful SS13 collaboration you don’t want to miss or a Stella McCartney spotted sarong for a more refined approach. Plus there are million kaftans and breezy skirts- a pleated maxi is more intriguing and it flows beautifully in the summer wind. You can follow the style of the swimsuit. It’s all based on the look you’re going for.

Here’s to long beach days and summer nights. Hope you find the right bikini for you. Remember you should always feel comfortable and confident when wearing it. Attitude is key!

The Sixties

The sixties are in full swing for spring/summer ‘13.

I was looking over the Marc Jacobs collection this morning and I got very excited at the sight of a cocoa ruffled hem mini dress that had Twiggy written all over it. It just felt so summery and chic in a very cute sort of way. I don’t know if you understand what I mean, but it just has this vibe to it, a sophisticated combination of fun and delicacy. I would put it on with a pair flats and dance the night away, or day. It’s easy to transition.

Marc Jacobs

Other designers have been on the sixties bandwagon for this season. Marc touched on this in his collection for Louis Vuitton as well, giving it a checkered touch, through his inspiration from the Vuitton Damier. The sunshine yellow versions are perfect in the summer sun.

You can get inspiration for a sixties look from Miu Miu’s sweet mini dresses and 3/4 length skirts, Carven or Paco Rabanne’s shift dresses. Mix in some pointed toe flats or kitten heels, a minaudière, put your hair up and add a headband or chandelier earrings. Don’t forget the playful attitude and you’re all set.
